The 2025 WSOP Circuit (WSOPC) Baltimore Main Event has been overshadowed by a major controversy. What should have been a historic tournament for Maurice Hawkins, who secured a record-tying 18th WSOPC ring, turned into a scandal due to a shocking dealer mistake that eliminated Divyam Satyarthi, despite him holding the best hand.
During the 3-handed phase of the tournament, Satyarthi and Hawkins went all-in preflop. Satyarthi held ♠️Q♠️10, while Hawkins had ♦️A♦️3. The board ran out ♠️K♠️2♠️10♠️4, giving Satyarthi a flush. However, the dealer incorrectly awarded the pot to Hawkins, who had made a straight on the river.
Neither the dealer, Hawkins, nor even Satyarthi noticed the error at the moment. As a result, Satyarthi was eliminated in third place, missing out on the heads-up battle.
According to the Tournament Directors Association (TDA), a hand can be contested until the next hand begins. However, once substantial action has occurred in a new hand, the result stands. Since the error was only discovered hours later, there was no way to reverse the ruling.
This incident has sparked heated debates about the accuracy of hand reading in high-stakes tournaments. Should automatic hand reviews be implemented to prevent such errors in the future?
